A Clay City man failed to return to jail after being released to help his family following the June flooding. According to Clay Circuit Court documents, attorney Ed McGlone filed a "hardship" motion on behalf of Timothy J. Steuerwald, 39, in Clay Circuit Court. The motion requested that Steuerwald be released from the Clay County Justice Center on June 25 in order to help his family replant 1,200-1,600 acres of lost crop due to water damage...

Commissioners: USDA must OK repairs to levees

Repairs to two county levees are now in the hands of the USDA. The Clay County Commissioners opened quotes for the work to be done on levees under the control of the Erie Canal Levee Association and Guirl Ditch Association.
