A 41-year member of the local American Legion was recognized for his service in World War II Saturday afternoon. Luther Wallace Erwin, 92, of Brazil, arrived at the American Legion Post #2 unaware that he was the guest of honor. “I’m so surprised that someone would do this for me,” a tearful Erwin said after being recognized for his Naval service and receiving a plaque and a Quilt of Valor. “This is very nice. Thanks a lot. I sure appreciate this and for all they do for the service.”...

Planning under way for second Route 40 Fest

The Route 40 Fest is being planned for the second year in downtown Brazil. It is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 16. “We are working with INDOT and we don’t think there will be any problem with that date,” said Brazil United Methodist Church Pastor Rick Koch, a member of the Brazil Main Street organization which hosts the event. The program is in the earliest stages of planning and some ideas have been discussed, Koch said. “We are going to open up to last year’s vendors and we’re looking for new vendors,” he said.
