Hurt to give 'state of agriculture' and annual farmers' dinner

Purdue Extension will host the Farmer’s Share Ribeye Dinner on Thursday, March 23 at the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and dinner will start at 6:30. The event is held in conjunction with Ag Day Week at the fairgrounds. Dr. Chris Hurt, professor of agricultural economics at Purdue, will give a presentation on the state of agriculture in Indiana titled, “What is UP with Agriculture in 2017?”

State Police begin enforcement campaign against dangerous, impaired driving

The Indiana State Police announced this week they will join efforts with over 250 Indiana state and local law enforcement agencies to increase education and enforcement around dangerous and impaired driving. From today through March 26, officers will conduct high-visibility patrols specifically designated to identify and intercept those driving aggressively and under the influence.

What about the term for an underground layer of rock that holds groundwater — an arroyo or an aquifer? If you answered White House and aquifer, respectively, you might have what it takes to compete with students like local eighth-grader Hunter Strain, who earned a return trip to the Indiana National Geographic State Bee by winning his local Bee against North Clay Middle School students in grades 4 through 8 earlier this year.

YMCAs of the Wabash Valley annual campaign has $145k fundraising goal

YMCAs of the Wabash Valley announced its annual fundraising campaign this week, along with highlighting events, new community partnerships and a dedication to its members. The association, which consists of Clay County YMCA in Brazil and Vigo County YMCA in Terre Haute, set a fundraising goal of $145,000.
