Marylyn Kay Reed, of Greencastle, Indiana, peacefully went home to Jesus and her beloved Chuck (Charles Luther Reed) on Monday, May 27th, 2024 at 1:34 am surrounded by her family.

Marylyn was born in Clay City, Indiana to the late Wallace (Wally) Oscar Kress and Martha Elizabeth Hepler Kress on April 5th, 1944.

During her 80 beautiful years on Earth she enjoyed the simple things. Shopping, camping, cooking, politics, watching QVC, collecting Boyd’s Bears, and growing tomatoes were amongst her favorite activities. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family.

She loved going for drives through the countryside with her son and grandson, going gambling with her sisters, talking and watching movies with her daughters and decorating their homes together, taking her grandchildren shopping for school or work clothes, cooking with her granddaughters, trying new restaurants with her husband, and simply running errands with her family. Marylyn made it a priority to make Christmas magical for her children and grandchildren through their childhoods and into adulthood. She attended every sporting event and important life event of each of her children and grandchildren. She made sure they always had their bellies full of good food, favorite drinks and sweet treats.

Marylyn proudly dedicated over 30 years of service to the Department of Corrections, working her way up from a Clerk to the Executive Assistant to the Superintendent at Putnamville Correctional Facility.

She will be remembered for her purity of heart, her relentless love, strength, loyalty and kindness. She was sweet, witty and entirely selfless. A teacher, advisor, confidant, supporter, creator of peace and magical moments, and best friend to all of her family.

Marylyn is survived by her sister Patti Archer; children Todd Detro (Nealy), Jill Poynter (Jeff) and Mandy Hofer; grandchildren Shayna Poynter, Brett Poynter, Chase Poynter, Erika Poynter, Makenna Hofer, Olivia Detro and Katie Detro, as well as many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wallace and Martha Kress, her husband Charles Reed, sister Loretta Miller, brother Edward Kress, brothers-in-law Russell Miller and Robert Archer, and niece Debra Brothers.

The Celebration of Marylyn’s Life and Legacy will be held on Saturday, June 8th 2024 at Hanna Street Baptist Church (501 E. Hanna St. in Greencastle, IN). Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM EST, followed by a Celebration Service at 1:00 PM EST.
