Mike attended Glenn Schools and graduated from Cory High School. He played high school basketball and even as a young boy, always had a love for farming.

Throughout childhood, Mike helped his dad on the farm and after high school graduation, started his own farm journey with a special cheerleader he kept his eye on throughout his high school career and later married. Mike was a 4th generation farmer who had great integrity, honesty, and outstanding work ethics which enabled Mike to pick up fields to farm as friends and neighbors would come ask him to farm their ground. From there, he was able to purchase his own land and continue the Nussel Farm Legacy, which continues to build and thrive today. Mike also went on to receive the Hoosier Homestead Award. He was also a retired bus driver from Vigo County School Corporation, where he worked for 31 years with a perfect driving record and achieved the Good Guy Award. He belonged to the Zorah Shriners, Riley Lodge 390, and Indiana Farm Bureau. Other things he enjoyed were attending family functions and traveling with family and friends. He will be missed dearly by his children, grand and great grandchildren, his loving wife and best friend Carolyn, and a dog named Nellie.
