JAMES “JIM” ALLEN SNEDDON

Formerly of Brazil, IN

Mr. James “Jim” Allen Sneddon, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away at the age of 84 on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Mr. Sneddon was born in Knightsville, Indiana on December 2, 1939, the son of the late William Allen Sneddon and Ina May Lunsford Sneddon. Jim graduated from Van Buren HS in Brazil, IN where he met the love of his life, Carolyn. He served in the Indiana U.S. Army National Guard reaching the rank of Sgt. He began his working career with CBS Records in Terre Haute, IN and moved his family to Carrollton, in 1982, to continue working at Sony Music as the Tape Duplicating Production Superintendent. Mr. Sneddon was a longtime umpire working anywhere from Little League to College sports. Every game he officiated was the “most important” game to someone and he treated it that way. He was a member of the West GA Umpire Association, GA High School Athletics, and served as the Commissioner of GA HS Baseball and Softball for many years. Jim was competitively selected to work 19 GA HS Baseball State Championship Finals, which included many players who went on to major league careers. He officiated college Southeast and Gulf Coast Conference games leading to the Women’s NCAA National Championship games. Jim served off field as a Trainer and Umpire-in-Chief to evaluate and develop umpire talent. In his spare time, he could be found as a chain official for Carrollton HS football games or working the shot clock at West GA University basketball games. Among his many accolades are recognition by the Georgia Athletic Officials Association as the 2015 Overall Official of the Year, and his induction into the American Softball Association Hall of Fame. Jim loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Carrollton First Methodist Church and the Agape Sunday School class.

Above all, Jim was a proud and loving family man. He and Carolyn traveled extensively, taking cruises to beautiful locations or visiting family and friends. Jim especially loved to visit cities with Major or Minor League baseball teams. He was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves and was honored by his children with a 2021 World Series brick at Truist Park. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Major (Ret) James “Jimmy” and Jane Sneddon of Harvest, Alabama; Julie and Randy Sisson of Carrollton; Jana and Steven Prince of Woodland, Georgia; and Jay Sneddon of Carrollton. Jim was lovingly known as “Pappy” to his surviving grandchildren, J.R. and Katherine Sneddon, Matt and Alyssa Sneddon, Leah Sneddon, Ben Sisson, Luke Sisson, Sam and Zoe Sisson, Massey and Beth Prince, Lance and Lexi Prince, Justin Prince, Jordan Sneddon (mother, Amy Sneddon), Alana Sneddon (mother, Dawn Adair); great grandchildren, Stetson Prince, Grant Prince; sisters-in-law, Harriet Sneddon, Annabelle Sneddon; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sherry Ann and Bob Lybarger of Lizton, Indiana. He was “favorite uncle” to numerous nieces and nephews.
