Sarah M. (Targett) Meneely Wheat, 97, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on July 4, 2024.

Those waiting to welcome her in Glory include her parents, Oliver Derek and Edith Targett, siblings Helen, Jim Henry, Walter, Isabelle, Warren, Paul and Robert Targett and Florence Huff as well as husbands Roy A. Meneely and James W. Wheat, grandson Jeff Lucas and grandson in-law Tim Carman.

She is survived by children Jean Howell (Nelson), Barbara Lucas and Jim Meneely (Janie). Her Grandchildren are Debra L. Voelpel (Mark), Patti Carman and Aaron Howell. Great grandchildren include Niki Voelpel, Randi Larson (Nathan), Sarah RC Jaeger (Emmett) and Jack Lucas. Great-great grandchildren are Isaac, Selah and Rosalie Larson, and Emilia Jaeger.

Sarah was born and raised in Staunton, Indiana and was a lifelong member of Staunton First Christian Church. Her husband Roy was in the Air Force, so she raised her children in several locations around the country and Japan. Later, while married to Jim Wheat, she became a snowbird, spending winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. After he passed, she and her daughter lived together and continued spending the winters in Florida.

In addition to her beautiful smile and amazing chocolate chip cookies, Sarah is remembered as an exceptional and caring nurse at Clay County Hospital where she worked for over 20 years.  She loved her family, friends, flowers, birds and all things nature and enjoyed being in the company of them all.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at French Funeral Home 421 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834 with the funeral immediately following. Burial will be held at Summit Lawn Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Staunton First Christian Church, PO Box 143, Staunton, Indiana 47881.
