Janice Lee Dressler, 85, of Brazil died peacefully at 6:04 pm on July 23, 2024 at Westminster Village in Indianapolis, IN following a brief illness.

She was born April 6, 1939 in Brazil, IN, the daughter of Harry and Wynema Stewart Haverkamp. She graduated from Hobart High School and continued her education at Indiana State University, eventually graduating with a Master’s degree in Education. She later went back to school to become a paralegal.   

At the age of 24 Janice married the love of her life, James Dressler, on January 31, 1964. Together they raised their five children in Clay County. For many years Janice could be sighted with Jim in the bleachers watching one of their five children compete in sports for Brazil and Northview High Schools. Jim preceded her in death on January 29, 2011.

Janice served on the Clay Community Parks Association as well as the Historical Society. Janice was a legal secretary/paralegal for most of her career. She worked for George Craig; and James O. McDonald at McDonald Law Office, retiring after working for Alan Mills of Barnes & Thornburg in downtown Indianapolis.

Janice loved sitting on her back patio looking at all of her flowers and watching her dogs, Tater & Tot play in the yard. Most recently she has enjoyed sitting inside in her recliner admiring her year-round Christmas tree, as well as playing with her dog, Tater II. She also loved watching sports, especially the Indiana Pacers and all NFL and NCAA football. She also loved living so close to Forest Park, where she would regularly take walks with her dogs.

Jim and Janice were members of Brazil First Christian Church where they raised their five children.

Survivors include her five children: Harry and Michele Dressler, of Lebanon, Ohio, Jana and Jeff Nees of Heltonville, IN, Perry and Kristie Dressler of Harrodsburg, KY, Jayme and Joe Robbins of Indianapolis, IN, and Roy Dressler of Brazil, IN; grandchildren: Luke Dressler, Erin Dressler, Brittnee Yocom Bonawitt and husband Dan, Jenica Yocom, Ashlyn Yocom Beasley and husband Migale, JJ Nees and wife Maddie, Ashley Nees, Brittney Nees Morris and husband Chris, Madison Dressler Hall and husband Ian, Mason Dressler, McKaydyn Dressler, and Max Robbins; great-grandchildren: Alec, Brycen, Aubree, Eden and Hunter Bonawitt; Carter, Aalivia and Aaliyah Beasley; Jalen and Ebron Beverly; Benson Yocom; Taylor Nees; Kylie, Madelyn and Ella Morris; Tater II; many cousins and extended family. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm at French Funeral home with Chris Gregg officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm until the time of service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brazil Concert Band or First Christian Church in Janice’s memory.
