Willis H. Stewart, 96, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at HutsonWood Nursing Facility in Brazil.

He was born on August 16, 1928 in Lewis Township, Indiana, the son of Fred and Ora (Rockey) Stewart. Willis graduated from Jasonville High School. On December 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Margaret (Peggy) Jean Russell in Jasonville, Indiana.

Willis’ early years were spent as a lifeguard at Shakamak State Park. He also hauled mine timbers for his father’s sawmill. Later, he was a salesman for Hostess Cakes and Stewart-Carey Glass Company in Terre Haute, Indiana. Upon leaving Stewart-Carey, Willis became a glazier and opened his own glass company and operated Stewart Glass and Stewart Car Wash along with his wife and sons. The businesses were located on West National Avenue in Brazil Indiana.

Willis and Peggy were known for their annual Christmas decoration display in Forest Manor Subdivision in Brazil. People would come from far and wide to see the elaborate light display, a Ferris Wheel, a Merry-Go-Round, a waving Santa Claus and listen to the holiday music of the Stewart, Pickett and Thomas households.

Willis was fond of spending his time boating on Rocky Fork Lake and his winters in Naples or Fort Myers, Florida. He enjoyed a good game of Euchre and challenged himself with putting together puzzles.

He was preceded in death by his wife in June, 2003.

Survivors include his sons Steven and Gary and daughter in law, Renee, his granddaughter, Ashley Dickison, great-granddaughters Reagann, Kennedie and Annie Dickison, and great-great granddaughter, Emery Mueller, all of Brazil.

As he wished, he will be cremated, and his remains will be placed next to his wife in Clearview Cemetery. French Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care.
