WILMA ILENE (FAGG) MODESITT, Brazil, IN

Friday, October 4, 2024

Wilma Ilene (Fagg) Modesitt, 95, of rural Brazil, passed at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024, she had been surrounded by her loving family for days leading up to her passing at Providence Health Center at St. Mary of the Woods Campus.

She was born on September 6, 1929, in Vigo County, the daughter of Everett and Esther Fagg. She graduated from Glenn High School. She married Max L. Modesitt on Dec. 3, 1948, in Clay County. She had three wonderful children Jim, Jane, and Tom. Wilma was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She taught piano lessons to many in the surrounding area and even took courses at ISU to help her with teaching lessons. She continued to play piano for her entire life.

Wilma enjoyed camping with their children and grandchildren. She poured her love into her family functions, especially hosting them for the holidays and making her delicious meals, including things like fried chicken, homemade applesauce, spaghetti slaw, and the best veggie dip. A favorite memory of her grandchildren was going to Grandma’s for New Year’s Eve and making party hats and homemade confetti that they threw all over the house when the new year came in, Grandma would then vacuum the confetti for the following year!

Wilma was a member of the Modern Mrs. Home Ec. Club in Clay County for many years. She enjoyed spending time studying her family genealogy. She was also an organizing member of the Clay County Indiana Genealogical Society, where she took the time to recognize the death of any Clay County veteran. Wilma volunteered at 4-H, was a Farmer’s Union Youth Leader, and was a member of a singing group who sang on a radio program called the Sunshine Hour. Wilma played piano at church as well as volunteered her time and energy for years as a member at North Union Church. Wilma had a true servant’s heart and would do anything for anyone. Her great grandchildren all knew where to find the stash of fruit roll-ups and knew they would get one on every visit to Grandma’s house, as well as, a piano lesson or at least a song played by her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Max, her parents Everett and Esther, and her brother Fred Fagg (Sheila).

She is survived by two sons, James E. Modesitt (Mary Lou) and Thomas L. Modesitt (Sue), one daughter, Jane E. Loughmiller (Dale), grandchildren, Scott Loughmiller (Kristen) of San Francisco, Eric Loughmiller (Brandy), David Loughmiller (Shannon), April Nicoson (Scott), Dan Modesitt (Makenzie), Kelly Alford (Heather) and Kyle Alford (Kelly),19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her supporting cousin/companion Bob Lawson.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 8th from 12 P.M. until 2 P.M. at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 East National Avenue in Brazil. Funeral services will begin at 2 P.M. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley.
