Providing a helping hand
In the past three weeks, Hurricanes Helene and now Milton have left thousands of victims dealing with damaged properties, no electricity, and people struggling with the deaths of their family and friends.
Although FEMA requested people stop coming to help the disaster situations, WTWO, WAWV, and MyWabashValley.com teamed up with the Salvation Army to raise money for the victims.
Hurricane Helene, a category 4 storm, struck the southeast United States on September 26th, causing 500 miles of destruction and spreading its effects all the way to Indiana.
Two weeks later, Hurricane Milton made a second catastrophic pass at the Florida region. The strong winds ripped apart another disturbance in the western Atlantic Ocean, Nadine, as Milton made landfall Wednesday.
Officials believe Tropical Storm Kirk could become another major hurricane within the week.
The last time three hurricanes struck Florida in a single season was in 2005.
Many local politicians and hometown heroes rose to the challenge to help these people by helping The Hurricane Relief Drive on Thursday from 6 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
