Two tribute walls will stand in Brazil, Indiana, a solemn testament to the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

It's a community effort as Eliza Rizley Stacey NSDAR, VFW Post 1127, and American Legion Post 2 host the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall and the Some Gave All Moving Tribute at North Clay Middle School.

The walls will be displayed outside in the field behind the school, 3450 W State Rd 340, Brazil, IN 47834. From October 17-20, the walls will be open 24 hours a day, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to pay their respects.

The event co-chair, Leesa Nesty, expressed satisfaction with multiple benefits, including VFW's tenderloin dinner, fish fry, and American Legion's pancake breakfast. She mentioned that the community has shown strong support for the arrival of the walls, and volunteers have been nothing but committed.

"We're so thankful for everyone who came out and supported," said Nesty. "The VFW auxiliary ladies worked really hard (at the most recent benefit)."

On Thursday, October 17, all VFW Riders, Legion Riders, and Patriot Guard Riders who wish to participate in escorting the Vietnam Wall are invited to meet at South Putnam High School, 1780 E. U.S. Highway 40, Greencastle, IN, at 7:00-7:30 a.m. At around 8:20 a.m., the group will leave South Putnam High School.

Around 9:15 a.m., the escort will travel through Brazil on Route 40. The site will be something to see, with Vietnam-era vehicles planned to be part of the escort with veterans as passengers or drivers.

"We'd really like to get the community involved in this," said Nesty. "The fire department is going to have the Garrison Flag hanging, and we'd love for people to wave flags. Flags will be available at the VFW."

The walls are expected to arrive at North Clay at 10:00 a.m., with volunteers and Northview High School Football team members placing the wall. Nesty encourages anyone wanting to volunteer to join them. Other volunteer opportunities are available, including helping with parking and attending the wall.

"At about six o'clock that evening (Thursday), we'll have an orientation for volunteers," explained Nesty. That meeting isn't mandatory but is available for more information.

Considerable events are planned throughout the four-day stay of the walls. These include an opening and closing ceremony, multiple guest speakers, an Agent Orange Ceremony, and a special meal for all military veterans and families. The complete list of events can be found on the event schedule.

"Whenever you look at the schedule, I can see people going out there every day. Not just going to see the wall and going home. We wanted to have something going on every day to draw people."

Available during the reception on Friday, October 18, and throughout the weekend will be the one-of-a-kind book honoring Hoosier Vietnam Veterans, A Time to Honor: Stories of Service, Duty, and Sacrifice.

"For any Vietnam veterans who missed their chance to get a book, they will be able to get that while they're there."

Nesty says the closing ceremony will be something to attend.

"It will be music, speaking, and possibly a big surprise."

The last time the public may visit the walls will be on Sunday evening, October 20, as Clay community students will return from Fall Break the following Monday and view the walls.

"Monday will be for the students only. We're very thankful that it will be there and the students will be able to see history first hand."
